Let The Digitizing Begin

As I mentioned in my previous post. I wanted to start digitizing some of the more obscure promo and gaming related media in my collection. I’m mostly focusing on videos I’ve found that includes a lot of Japanese promo and bonus items. While I personally don’t read or speak Japanese I think these are things that need to be seen in the western world of gaming. A lot of retro games have heavy Japanese influence and it’s refreshing to see their take of the games in Japan, their advertising style, how they captured their games and potentially how those games differed from the games we got in the west. Admittedly, some of what I’m putting together never made it to the west so I hoping this gives people a first look as to what was going on in Japan while we only got sneak peaks in magazines and what little gaming press we had prior to the internet taking over how we consume our gaming news and media.

I’m having fun but, man do I feel out of practice. I have the setup to do a proper job, I’m just rusty I guess. I’ve ran into some hiccups with captures and software. I think I’ve mostly ironed it out. I think it honestly has to do with my work flow. I’ve been looking to capture this stuff in three primary resolutions since they’re the most common resolutions today; 1080p, 1440p and 4K. I’m focusing mostly on the 4k stuff since that’s the gold standard for the time I’m doing this. I have the means to properly capture in 4k with my RetroTink 4K pro and solid Elgato 4k capture card. The problem I was having was related to trying to change resolutions and for one piece of media when it seems like I have better luck capturing the different pieces of media in one resolution at a time.

I’ve pretty much nuked my YouTube channel which honestly was six feet under anyway as I haven’t posted anything to it in months. That’s why I wanted to start this website. It sort of allows me to do what I enjoyed about YouTube but without the hours of video editing and over criticism that I would give myself when what I envisioned isn’t what s got posted. Besides time, that’s the main reason I stopped posting, a lot of idea but, not enough resource to dedicate to see it through. I’ve added what I’ve digitized there for people to see as well as added a media archive to my site here. I’ve also added my uncut capture to Archive.org so that if anyone wants to borrow what I’ve posted they’re welcome to. I don’t want to see this stuff gate kept and want to make sure people have access to it. The way I see it, the more ways the better. Well, I gotta a long road of capturing and website updating ahead, so I’m think I’m going to leave it here.
